Vacation time is over. Today I get back to work, pounding the pavement of the Los Angeles Convention Center, and risking being caught in a riot at the Staples Center next door if the Lakers lose, all to bring you only the finest in gaming journalism.

If I can remember how to use this newfangled Twitter thing that the young kids are into these days, I’ll be broadcasting periodic tweets as to my disposition during the show, and commenting on anything that really catches my eye.

You can follow the action right here: http://twitter.com/TheMMOGamer

Highlights from today’s appointment book include Trion, with their renamed Rifts: Planes of Telara, THQ with the 40K MMO (which I really want to see, being an old 40K nerd back in high school), and 38 Studios, who will be sitting down with me to have a little conversation about their as-yet unnamed mystery project.

Age of Conan: Rise of the Godslayer is being distributed through retail by CompuExpert in the US and by Deep Silver in the European markets, and is available as an all-new combined package that includes both the original game and the expansion so that even new players who might not own a previous copy of the game can easily get started on their adventures through the new lands of Khitai. It is also possible to upgrade an existing copy of ‘Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures’ to the expansion through the Funcom account management system, or by purchasing the game in retail and upgrading with the key enclosed in the box.

Currently released in beta, the super secret app is like other Facebook apps out there, and yet a little different. You can level up, purchase new digs for your character and ” Headquarters”, run missions for cash and “influence” to level up. One of the cool differences so far, is that in doing missions to gain that influence, there are actually a few different types of missions. You may play a simple side scrolling mission, where you guide your character across rooftops avoiding guards, or searching for items in a hidden items type office scenario. It nice to actually see some meat in new Facebook games such as this, and with word of a couple more Facebook games in development a SOE, it wil be interesting to see what else they come up with.

In big “Man, this is really the last thing we need” news today, subscribers to DAoC and WAR are going to want to be checking their bank and credit card statements closely over the next few days, as a large number of reports on the official boards, and now acknowledged by Mythic itself, state that players are erroneously being charged as many as 99 separate times this month for their subscriptions.

At $14.95 per month times 99 charges… well, we’ll just let you do the math on that one.

Mythic’s Andy Belford had this to say regarding the issue:

We have confirmed with our vendor that players who have been charged multiple times for their subscriptions should start seeing a reversal of charges within 24-36 hours. We anticipate that once the charges have been reversed, any fees that have been incurred should be refunded as well. If after 36 hours, there are still incorrect charges or fees on your account, please follow these instructions:

Please begin by contacting your financial institution and explain to them that you were incorrectly charged multiple times and, as a result, over drafted. Most financial institutions will reverse these charges

If your financial institution is unable to remove these charges, you may contact our billing department by calling 650-628-1001 during our hours of operation, which are 10:00 AM EDT – 10:00 PM EDT, 7 days a week. Please have the phone and fax number of your financial institution ready when you call.

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that this issue may be causing our players. Please continue to watch the Herald in the coming days for further information regarding this issue.

This situation is still ongoing, with rumors and innuendo flying all over the place, and we’ll keep you posted as things develop…
