Something fishy (and no, I don’t just mean the acquisition of social game developer Play Fish by their publisher, EA) floating around the Mythic Entertainment tank today.  Twitter is all…atwitter with reports like this and this from staffers and people otherwise considered to be in the know regarding significant layoffs.

According to this report, Mythic appears to be but one of several EA’s developers affected by downsizing, with Tiburon (Madden, NCAA Football, etc) and Black Box Studios (Need For SpeedNeed For Speed reviewsNeed For Speed reviews, SkateSkate reviewsSkate reviews) also suffering layoffs of unspecified proportion.

No official word from EA as of yet regarding the downsizing, but if true, things aren’t looking too bright for Mythic.  Sources are reporting upwards of 80 layoffs on the day, which would come to something like 40% of the Mythic staff.
