What better to do on a Sunday than try to get your hands on a Jumpgate Evolution beta key? Yesterday’s correct answer was transport ships and mining ships. And the winner is Michael Rochester!

Sunday’s trivia question is as follows: What type of physics system does the game employ?

Good luck and read the complete rules here!

Update: Contest is over for today, march onwards to Day Eight to continue!

DANCER (Drag And Near-true-physics Combined to Engineer Reality) is NetDevil’s proprietary physics engine that makes space flight in Jumpgate so interesting and fun.

  4. Adam Barnwell on October 26th, 2008 19:51

Jumpgate Evolution will be employing the Newtonian physics system like the original Jumpgate game, but with a slight difference. Their will be an option for keyboard and mouse fighter pilots to use simply just that and an option for hardcore fighter pilots to use the joystick which is the only way to use the full potential of the Newtonian physics system.

D.A.N.C.E.R. is the name of the physics system, using a semi-Newtonian model to simulate space flight.

It wasn’t clear if you were asking about what kind of physics the game has or the name of the actual physics engine so I’ll answer both just in case. The answers are semi-Newtonian and D.A.N.C.E.R., respectively. Be more specific next time.

Technically, it’s semi-newtonian. It’s not quite classic Arcade and not quite true Newtonian (read: real) physics, but a sort of compromise.

It is newtonian physics with a drag coefficient.

Got something to say?
