China De-Bones Warcraft

By | July 11, 2007 | | Filed under: News

Reuters, by way of official Chinese news agency Xinhua, is reporting that The9, the firm responsible for bringing Blizzard’s World of Warcraft to the world’s most populous nation, has removed the skeletons that appear after a player’s avatar has resurrected and substituted the graphic with a grave graphic in its place:

A member of staff with the public relations department of The9, which runs WoW in China, was quoted by a Guangzhou-based newspaper as saying the changes were made according to “China’s particular situation and relevant regulations.”

Chinese players are reportedly unhappy with the de-boning of the popular title, with disgruntled posts being made on the official forums and a petition protesting the change coupled with threats of a boycott floating around the Internet outside of Azeroth’s vast skeleton-free lands.
