Press release assets sent along with the press release announcing Gods War Online are from a very different game; the city builder game released in 2000, Zeus: Master of Olympus. The PR assets seems to be taken from the earlier game’s wall paper section.

Publisher I.G.G. (Myth War, Voyage Century) today announced their latest MMO product, Gods War Online. The game is based on Greek mythology and features an anime-style art direction. There are no screenshots released yet but the press release says the teaser website reflects the art style of the game itself.

Here are the assets sent with the press release.

Compare the above assets with the original wallpapers from Zeus: Master of Olympus. Impression Games developed Zeus: Master of Olympus and Sierra Entertainment was the publisher.

The last image in particular sports an Impression Games logo on the lower right corner.

With the help of Archive.org we looked back at the original Impression Games website for their citybuilder and Sierra Entertainment’s website for the game as well. Gamespy still has the original wallpapers uploaded here and here.

An anonymous source from another third-party web site has informed us that she inquired with IGG regarding the use of the Zeus materials in their press release. She was told by Vivian Chan, Officer of Oversea Marketing that The assets I have attached are [...] originally created by us.”

While the assets provided in the press release, as well as the graphic material from the official web site and forums indicate that they were lifted from Zeus, the gameplay, according to the documentation we received, does not indicate any use of Zeus’ gameplay assets.

Update: It seems the use of Zeus’ assets may have been nothing more than a simple mistake. Vivian Chan got back to us about our inquiry regarding the art assets and told us she was “…terribly sorry for sending those pictures by mistake.” She sent us the intended PR screenshots.
