The MMO Gamer: Dragonica online is releasing with four classes, a lot of players may think this limits diversity. What other things besides a players class effect play style in Dragonica online?
Max Stolberg: First, upon reaching level 20, all characters can start with their first job change quest and then, depending on what class they’ve chosen, can select between 2 different progressions. The warrior for example can decide between a knight and a gladiator upon reaching level 20.
Further, you of course have different skills but won’t have enough skill points to level all skills to their max level so you’ll have to choose which ones you prefer and decide whether you’d like to use more passive or active skills, more offensive or defensive skills. There will be further additions to this class later in the year, so there is lots of scope for diversity.
The MMO Gamer: When is the game planed to be released? Will there be a beta or a sneak peak before that?
Max Stolberg: The game is still scheduled to be released in the first half of 2009 and we’re well on track for that. There also will be a Beta which we have not yet announced but will do so in the upcoming weeks.
The MMO Gamer: I read that the game allows marriages. This is great and all don’t get me wrong, but is there a system of divorce? My sweetheart won’t be walking away with my heart and half my stuff will she? Also how does marriage work, will people be able to tell I am married… if not can I marry more than one person?
Max Stolberg: Even though divorce is not my favourite thing, you can do it in Dragonica just like you can anywhere else. You will lose the benefits of your marriage though and it might not be that easy to find another partner. After all, you first have to form a couple and stick with it before you can advance to the status of being married.
Our divorces are very civil though – nobody will try to take your money from you or file a lawsuit against you – and you can still be best friends afterwards. The hearts that will indicate that you’re married disappear as does your affection for your partner but this is only temporary. Dragonica is very forgiving in that sense.
The MMO Gamer: PvP is a big part of the game for many players. How have you made it a fun and rewarding experience in Dragonica?
Max Stolberg: At launch, Dragonica will support two different styles of PvP, Deathmatch and Elimination, on four different maps. Through the various beta phases in Asia, PvP already has been well balanced and a lot of player feedback has been taken into consideration. You will of course be able to earn points towards a specific set of PvP battle armour, but also earn experience if you wish so.
The MMO Gamer: How many different pets types will there be at launch? Can players have more than one pet? Will they ever get mad and run away? Will pets ever fight each other or you?
Max Stolberg: Currently, Barunson aims to implement at least 3 different pets with the launch but this of course will not be exhausting. This feature currently still is under development and is being tested internally so I can’t really say much at this moment. But pets will most likely fight alongside you rather than with you.
The MMO Gamer: I saw some giant mushrooms in screen shots. Are they magic is that how they got so big? Can I eat them, will I get big if I eat them or small? I seem to remember some make you big and some make you small… I might be thinking of something else. If I can’t eat the giant mushrooms what can I eat in the game? If I get married will my wife cook it?
Max Stolberg: In Dragonica all genders are considered equal so I’d say the person who is the better chef will cook for you and who knows it may be the man for a change. Usually, your status changes to some extent if you eat giant mushrooms and especially when they are magic.
Cooking would certainly not help with giant magic mushrooms but it may help in processing raw meat from the monsters in Dragonica or to cook a nice spicy starfish soup which increases your movement speed by 20%.
The MMO Gamer: What kind of clothing options will be available in game? Is it optional?
Max Stolberg: Clothing is not optional in Dragonica. We prefer if you keep your clothes on and so will the players after a while as they will realize it does not only look cool, it also gives nice bonuses. But of course there will be all sorts of clothes to choose from, both being available through the item shop, traded between characters and earned from completing in-game quests.
The MMO Gamer: You have done a few other interview for Dragonica online, don’t worry I forgive you, but what can you tell us that you have not mentioned in any other interview?
Max Stolberg: Nice one. I’ve already mentioned some things I’ve not mentioned before I believe. Like the fact that giant magic mushrooms may be bad for you or that marrying does not necessarily mean your wife has to cook for you.
Max Stolberg: But let me give you one extra bit too. I’m looking forward to seeing the first big Swedish guild cross swords with Lavalon and later with Aram.
The MMO Gamer: Thanks Max for letting me do this interview. Is there anything else you would like to tell our readers about Dragonica?
Max Stolberg: Thank you for showing so much interest in Dragonica. I think the best is that users will look out for our official Closed Beta announcement and try the game for themselves. It really is worth a try and it’s so funny!
