The Secret World Coming in June

Originally slated to make its debut in April, Funcom has decided to push back the launch date of its upcoming MMO The Secret World, and the games new launch date is scheduled for June 19th, 2012.  Funcom will use the additional time to continue fine tuning things as they intensify closed beta testing and add a few more layers of polish to what looks to possibly be a rather large launch for them.

From the press release:

More than 750,000 gamers are now registered as beta testers, which is significantly higher than Funcom’s previous MMO ‘Age of Conan’ had at the same point in development.”

With games like Tera and Guild Wars 2 recently seeing some beta testing and media attention, it is little surprise that Funcom wants to take its time and try to make the launch of The Secret World as smooth and positive for players as possible.  With a recent run of good MMO’s launching with few hiccups, the bar has really been raised, and the pressure is on developers in 2012 to bring their A-game when launching a new title.

On June 19th we will get our chance to see if Funcom can live up to expectations, and if The Secret World can be brought into our world without the issues that plagued the launch of Age of Conan.  Hopefully the extra time will be well used and the development team can bring a layer of polish players are coming to expect from their MMO’s from the beginning.
